Happy first day of Autumn! Summer is officially behind us and it’s time to embrace the cooler weather. Today, the length of day and night are nearly equal because the sun is exactly above the equator. Here are a couple of quick fun fall facts:
1. Until around 1500, autumn was just called “Harvest” because of the harvest moon, which is the full moon closest to the autumn equinox. *
2. When there is less sunlight in the fall, that is what causes the leaves to change color because the chlorophyll is breaking down letting the orange, red, and yellow out. *
