Did you know that there are more than 160 million people in the civilian labor force in the U.S.?* Here are some other facts about Labor Day that you might not know:

  1. The first Labor Day took place in New York City in 1882 **
  2. In the 1800s the average American was working 12 hours a day, 7 days a week **
  3. The first state to make Labor Day an official holiday was Oregon in 1887 **
