Joel Johnson, Managing Partner of Johnson Brunetti, has been in the financial services industry for over 28 years. As a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ professional, Joel has helped thousands of families develop their own individualized retirement plans based on the unique needs of those approaching the second phase of their lives. Starting from humble beginnings but developing a strong work ethic early on, Joel’s grandfather taught him by serving others first and creating value for someone else, you will never have to worry about money. These important life lessons were the driving force in establishing a firm which stands for integrity and exceeding customer expectations. The goal of Johnson Brunetti is creating a sense of confidence as individuals head into retirement.
Through Joel’s leadership, Johnson Brunetti has grown into a leading Retirement and Investment Specialty firm with eight Financial Advisors, a staff of 22 and six offices located in the communities served. Joel is the host of “Better Money” on WFSB Channel 3 Eyewitness News weekend mornings between 7 AM – 9 AM. He has a weekly financial radio show, “Money Wisdom” that can be heard on several stations in New England, including WTIC NewsTalk 1080. He is the author of many books, including the “The Money Map”, has articles published in the Wall Street Journal and the Hartford Business Journal and is a monthly contributor to Forbes. In addition, Joel’s weekly Podcast, Money Wisdom, aimed at educating the public about smart retirement options can be downloaded from iTunes.
Joel has been instrumental in creating a team environment at Johnson Brunetti and due to his success and expertise is a well sought out mentor within the financial services industry. Through the years, his passion for helping others has led Joel and Johnson Brunetti to donate money and resources to numerous non-profits including the Salvation Army, Veterans Association, Wounded Warriors, Dress for Success, Make-A-Wish®, Channel 3 Kids Camp, Special Operations Warrior Foundation and many others.
Joel and his wife Wendy have four sons. He loves hockey, music and traveling.
Eric Hogarth is a partner at Johnson Brunetti and is a member of our team of financial advisors. As a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ professional, Eric has been in the financial services industry for more than 12 years. Eric holds the Series 65 license, as well as Life, Health, Long-Term Care, Accident, and Property & Casualty licenses. Eric values the trust that his clients put in him, and truly enjoys working with them. One thing that Eric loves about his job is being able to help his clients prepare for one of the most important times in their lives – their retirement years. Eric’s honest approach and ability to decipher and explain complex financial situations in a clear, direct manner makes him a true partner to his clients.
Eric loves spending time at the beach with his wife and two children. His passion for skiing started early and has continued over the years – he was a ski instructor while in college and is now actively teaching his young children how to ski. Eric is also very passionate about serving the community and sits on the Board of Directors for the Mystic Aquarium helping them continue their mission of education and improving the oceans.
Doug Miller is a 25-year veteran of the financial services industry. With decades of experience at Putnam Investments, GE Capital, and Allianz, he brings great insight and a thorough understanding of financial opportunities. Doug enjoys helping his clients by guiding them through their income needs. He takes complex financial situations and breaks them down into simple and easy-to-understand solutions.
Doug lives with his wife and daughter and is very involved in his local Youth Lacrosse program.
David Shapiro has over 21 years of diverse financial services experience, including over a decade in investment management. He has an MBA and holds the Series 66 license as well as Life & Health Insurance licenses. He believes his broad understanding of the financial services industry creates an ideal foundation to understand and help clients achieve their goals. David, who joined Johnson Brunetti in 2018, is skilled at taking complex investment strategies and distilling them into simple understandable information.
David lives an active lifestyle with his wife Pam and two sons. They enjoy playing basketball, snowboarding and being outdoors.
Nick Colantuono has lived a life helping others achieve their financial goals and dreams since 2009. As a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ professional, Nick uses a holistic approach to planning as he helps transition his clients from a life of working to a life of doing the things they love in retirement. Nick is a graduate of Wheaton College in Norton, MA where he earned his Bachelor of Arts degrees in Economics and Political Science. He is also a graduate of Bryant University’s Financial Planning Certificate Program offered through their Executive Development Center.
Nick has written many articles pertaining to insurance and financial planning and has been published by The Warren Group appearing in national and regional publications. Nick lives with his fiancée Julia in Boston and is an avid sports fan who loves playing golf, softball, lifting weights, snowboarding, and cheering on his Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots.
Heath Grossman has been a member of our team of financial advisors since 2012. As a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ professional, Heath takes great care in assisting his clients to make prudent, well-informed financial decisions. His diverse experience in positions at some of the industry’s most prestigious institutions has included, financial advice, asset management, insurance and independent research. This knowledge has given him a unique vantage point, which influences his approach toward guiding his clients.
Heath loves spending time with his wife and twin sons and in addition, can be found enjoying music, skiing and cooking when the opportunity presents itself.
Ken Tumolo joined Johnson Brunetti as a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ professional in 2014. He brings a strong dedication to helping clients on the path towards financial security and independence as they plan for their retirement years because everyone deserves a secure and independent retirement. Ken holds the Series 66 license, as well as Life, Health and Long-Term Care licenses.
Ken is an active individual and in his spare time, he enjoys fishing, running and spending time with his wife and three sons.
Alex Angst is a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ professional with Johnson Brunetti. In his role, Alex is responsible for working with clients to develop strategies and recommendations for building and protecting clients’ assets, as well as providing exceptional customer service and growing Johnson Brunetti’s client base. Prior to Johnson Brunetti, Alex was a Financial Advisor for MassMutual. In addition to being a CFP® certificant, Alex is Series 66 licensed, is certified to sell Long-Term Care insurance approved by the Connecticut Partnership for Long-Term Care, and holds his NIPR Life & Health license.
Alex is very passionate about his faith and his family and loves spending time with his wife. He is a die-hard Yankees fan and a lover of coffee. During his senior year of college, Alex had the opportunity to study abroad in Sydney, Australia.
Diana joined Johnson Brunetti in 2015 and works directly with our Partner, Eric Hogarth. Diana couples her experience with her exceptional customer service skills, listening to and understanding client goals and needs, and helping devise strategies to address them. She holds Life and Health Insurance licenses. Diana comes to us with experience in Risk Management, having worked both as a Financial Representative at Northwestern Mutual, as well as working together with the top agents at the U.S.’ largest broker/dealer.
Diana loves to play golf and entertaining in her spare time. She and her husband are retired from the United States Air Force after 26 years of service.
As Director of Financial Planning, Matt will be building financial plans for prospective clients, supporting advisor appointments, and creating a system and processes for financial planning across the sales department. He comes to us from Edward Jones, where he was a Financial Advisor. He has an MBA and the Series 66 license. He is also Life & Health Insurance licensed. Matt is also certified to sell Long-Term Care insurance approved by the Connecticut Partnership for Long-Term Care. Matt joined the organization in 2017.
Matt is an avid college football fan and when Penn State is playing you are sure to find him watching the game. Matt loves to hike with his wife and rescue dog, Tanner and in addition, he is studying to earn his CFP designation.
Alex joined Johnson Brunetti in 2017. His attention to detail, good listening skills, and great empathy are strong attributes which create an all-around positive experience for our clients. Alex holds the Series 65 license as well as holding his Connecticut Life and Health license. Alex is also currently taking courses at the American College of Financial Services to become a Retirement Income Certified Specialist, which will help him achieve his goal of earning the Chartered Financial Consultant® designation.
Alex has a wife and three children and loves to spend any free time he may have by traveling.
With over 25 years of experience in the financial services industry at The Hartford, ING and most recently as Assistant Vice President at Lincoln Financial Group heading its retirement plan fiduciary services, Ray joined Johnson Brunetti in March 2018 as a Financial Advisor. Ray employs a client-focused approach to addressing each client’s needs ensuring that recommended programs encompass their financial goals by providing customized strategies along with exceptional customer service. He holds the Series 65 designation and is Life & Health Insurance licensed.
In his spare time, Ray enjoys hiking and fishing and most of all, spending time with his wife and two daughters. He is also a board member for the Connecticut Forest & Park Association (CFPA) dedicated to preserving Connecticut’s prestigious 825-mile blue-blazed hiking trails.
