Episode 98: How Should I Spend My Time in Retirement?
Our question today is: how should I spend my time in retirement?
This is a great question and it really speaks to the fact that retirement is not just about clocking out of work. Retirement is about finding purpose and joy in what you do.
In retirement, oftentimes, financial advisors see one of two situations. Sometimes, people will find a part-time job. Maybe it’s continuing to do what you’ve done already, but working in a smaller or a less time intensive capacity. Maybe it’s working remotely two or three days a week while you and your significant other get to travel or go down to a vacation home.
Perhaps on the flip side, you occupy your time with volunteer work, whether it be a church or a non-profit — whatever motivates you to be able to give back and find purpose beyond just a paycheck is a great way to occupy yourself in retirement. Last but not least, one of the biggest things is spending time with friends and family.
Whether you look for vacations, spend time with the grandkids, or work part-time, any of those things are a great way to spend retirement. Either way, it should be something that you can control and that your retirement plan is able to sustainably feed.
