What Is a Fiduciary Financial Advisor?

Eric Hogarth, CFP® and Kara Sundlun discuss fiduciary advisors and what role they play in your financial planning.

Fiduciary Financial Advisors are legally and ethically required to put your best interest before their own. In some instances, advisors may act in a suitable manner rather than fiduciary, meaning they are selling you something that is suitable for you but may not be the best overall option.

It is recommended to ask the advisor you meet with, “Are you working in a fiduciary capacity?” You want to know you are getting the best recommendations you can get.
