Podcast Episode 432: 10+ Retirement Bucket List Ideas

Retirement is ultimately about finding purpose and community. Yet many retirees discover that even with enough savings, it can be difficult to spend. A thoughtful plan helps bridge that gap — turning fear into meaningful spending that supports the life you want to live.

In this episode of Money Wisdom, Jake Doser, CFP®, CPWA® and Nicholas J. Colantuono, CFP® explore bucket list goals to find enjoyment and fulfillment in retirement.

Learning to Spend in Retirement

You may be hesitant to spend what you’ve spent your whole career building. Thinking this could be the purchase that causes you to run out of money can hold you back from checking off your bucket list. But with the right financial plan, you can have the clarity and confidence to spend responsibly and meet your long-term goals.

Making Time for the Things You Want

You’ll have plenty of time in retirement to fill with the things you enjoy. The first step is deciding what those bucket list items are. Maybe you want to learn a new language, plan a cross-country road trip, take a dance class, or see the Northern Lights. Many of our clients have found travel, hobbies, and community service to be some of the most rewarding experiences.

Finding Purpose and Community

Retirement brings a new challenge: finding a sense of purpose beyond work. Whether it comes from family, personal growth, or meaningful activities, purpose can be found in many places. You might discover it through a new interest, a social group, or a community project.

Building these connections is essential. Community and purpose matter just as much as financial security. In fact, loneliness is one of the biggest mental health challenges older adults face.

Creating a Plan to Fulfill Your Dreams

Planning for retirement starts with understanding what life costs and creating a financial plan to fund your goals. As financial advisors, we often encourage clients to spend more, not less. With a clear vision and a solid plan, retirement can give you the freedom to do what you want, when you want.
