This Earth Week, Johnson Brunetti took part in an innovative experiment with Save The Sound to help restore eelgrass, a crucial component for a healthy marine ecosystem. Eelgrass supports fish populations, clarifies water, and helps prevent erosion. Sadly, over 70% of the eelgrass in the Sound has been lost in recent decades.

As part of a volunteer team in Clinton, CT, Johnson Brunetti employees helped glue eelgrass seeds to clams, which naturally bury themselves in the seafloor, planting the seeds as they went. Over 2,000 clams were placed in a sea meadow in Long Island Sound. This was the first time Save The Sound has conducted a spring planting, and the results will be assessed this November to determine its success.

For five decades, Save the Sound has been leading environmental action along the New York and Connecticut shorelines. Through environmental monitoring, hands-on volunteer efforts, and more, the organization is committed to preserving the Sound and its surrounding ecosystems.
