Journey Home

Journey Home is a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping individuals and families transition out of homelessness and into stable, sustainable housing. For more than a decade, Journey Home has worked to address homelessness throughout Connecticut’s Capital Region.

But finding a place to call home is only part of Journey Home’s mission. The organization also helps people settle into their new spaces. Its volunteers deliver furniture and other essential household items directly to the residences. Through teamwork, heavy lifting, and a positive attitude, Journey Home helps ensure a home and a fresh start for everyone they serve.

Since 2015, Journey Home has made a significant difference in the region. For instance, they’ve helped drive an 86% decrease in the number of individuals experiencing chronic homelessness.

One Wish Project

One Wish Project, based in Andover, MA, helps bring joy, hope, and a sense of belonging to children and teens experiencing homelessness. Through personalized birthday celebrations, the non-profit organization creates unforgettable moments for kids who need it most. These celebrations, which include custom cakes, cards, and gifts, help remind children that they’re worthy of love and care.

In 2017, Hannah Finn, who was just 14 years old at the time, founded One Wish Project. Hannah believed every child should have the opportunity to feel special and celebrated on their birthday. One Wish Project began as an effort to bring birthday joy to children living in a local family shelter. Now the organization has grown immensely, celebrating thousands of children and teens across Massachusetts each year.

Save the Sound

For five decades, Save the Sound has worked to protect and restore the environment throughout the New York and Connecticut region. Through environmental monitoring and hands-on conservation on Long Island Sound, the organization is committed to preserving its ecosystems.

Save the Sound works to protect the many natural resources in the region, including rivers, shorelines, wetlands, and forests. For 50 years, its efforts have helped create a healthier environment for current and future generations.

One of the things that sets Save the Sound apart is the wide range of ways it creates change. Its work spans legislative advocacy and legal action, engineering, restoration projects, hands-on volunteer efforts, and more.
