House of Heroes aims to keep veterans safe in their own homes
Johnson Brunetti and House of Heroes teamed up for some necessary repair work on Sylvia McGiver’s home. McGiver served our country as an Army nurse at home in the U.S. and overseas in Japan and was ultimately assigned the rank of captain before her discharge in 1970.
House of Heroes is dedicated to making veterans’ homes safe for them to live in and to continue living in. Executive director Carol May says, “Many of these veterans live on a fixed income and it’s difficult for them to stay in their own home without the safety and accessibility improvements we make for free.” HOH has proudly been able to help 155 veterans with home improvement renovations and all work is completed in just one day.
15 volunteers from Johnson Brunetti and about 35 from House of Heroes worked together to power wash Sylvia’s home, repair a walkway, demolish and rebuild a deck, repair and stain a second deck, install a new staircase, and demolish and rebuild an old shed.
